Bible and Earth

The Shape of the Earth
"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in,"(Isaiah 40:22, NIV).
This may or may not be construed to support the spherical shape of the earth. The horizon is a circle and a circle is flat. The word translated “circle” here is the Hebrew word chuwg which is also translated “circuit,” or “compass” (depending on the context). That is, it indicates something spherical, rounded, or arched—not something that is flat or square.
The book of Isaiah was written sometime between 740 and 680 BC. This is at least 300 years before Aristotle suggested that the earth might be a sphere in this book On the Heavens.
Critics will commonly point to several passages that refer to "the four corners of the earth", such as in Isaiah 11:12, but often fail to grasp that this is a colloquialism that is still used today to portray the four compass extremities of the earth. Indeed, the Strongs Greek/Hebrew dictionary defines the word "corner" (gonia) as angle, or quadrant.
Also, Luke 17:34–36 says the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field. This is a clear indication of a revolving earth, with day and night at the same time.
“He has inscribed a acircle on the surface of the waters
At the bboundary of light and darkness."
Job 26:10

The Earth is suspended in nothing
"He spreads out the northern [skies] over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing," (Job. 26:7, NIV). This is particularly interesting, considering that the cosmology of other cultures at that time did not have the earth suspended in nothing, but rather upon pillars, or people, or animals. Another interesting tidbit that illuminates the divine nature of Job 26:7 is the recent discovery of a huge hole in space in the direction of the northern hemisphere(click here to read).

The earth is controlled by the heavens
We know the earth is controlled by the gravitational pull of the sun.
"Do you know the ordinances of the heavens,
Or fix their rule over the earth?"
Job 38:33

The Existence of Valleys in the Seas
"The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of breath from his nostrils," (2 Sam. 22:16, NIV).
"I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit,
O LORD, my God." Jonah 2:6

The Existence of Water Paths (Ocean Currents) in the Seas
"O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! ... When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, ... You made him [man] ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet ... the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas," (Psalm 8:1,3,6,8, NIV).
Scientists have only recently discovered springs of water in the depths of the oceans. Perhaps this is what the Bible is referring to in the following:
"Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths? (Job 38:16)".

Consistent With Hydrology
The bible includes reasonably complete descriptions of the hydrologic cycle.
He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries. Psalm 135:7

When He utters His voice,
There is a multitude of waters in the heavens:
“And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain,
He brings the wind out of His treasuries.” Jeremiah 10:13

The Hydrologic Cycle
The circulation and conservation of earth's water is called the hydrologic cycle, which is accurately portrayed in several passages of the Bible, including the following: "For He draws up drops of water, which distill as rain from the mist, which the clouds drop down and pour abundantly on man. (Job 36:27-28)" . Centuries after the Book of Job was written, Aristotle demonstrated only a vague understanding of this process. Though he recognized that rain came from clouds, he incorrectly postulated that air turned into water and vice versa.
It has only recently been learned that most clouds are formed by ocean evaporation, but again the Bible had it right centuries ago:
"All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; to the place from which the rivers come, there they return again (Eccl 1:7)".
"For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater"Isaiah 55:10

The complex nature of how water is supported in clouds despite being heavier than air is clearly implied when God declared to Job"Do you know how the clouds are balanced, those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge (Job 37:16).

Water condensation
The Bible refers to the surprising amount of water that can be held as condensation in clouds.
He binds up the water in His thick clouds,
Yet the clouds are not broken under it. Job 26:8

Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds; He scatters His bright clouds. Job 37:11

Hydrothermal vents
Hydrothermal vents are described in two books of the Bible written before 1400BC—more than 3,000 years before their discovery by science.
"In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened." Genesis 7:11
"Have you entered the springs of the sea?Or have you walked in search of the depths?" Job 38:16
Gen. 8:2; Prov. 8:28.

Earth’s crust
The Bible describes the Earth’s crust (along with a comment on astronomy).
Thus says the LORD:
“If heaven above can be measured,
And the foundations of the earth searched out beneath,
I will also cast off all the seed of Israel
For all that they have done, says the LORD.”
Jeremiah 31:37
Although some scientists claim that they have now measured the size of the universe, it is interesting to note that every human attempt to drill through the earth’s crust to the plastic mantle beneath has, thus far, ended in failure.
